The Dolphin Discovery Centre is Australia’s Premier Dolphin Experience. Located on the shores of Koombana Bay, visitors can experience four levels of interaction unequalled anywhere else in Australia. This includes an Interpretive Centre and Theatre, Interaction Zone, Swim Tours and Eco Cruises. As a non-profit community based organisation we are committed to dolphin research, education, conservation and tourism.

With over 100 Bottlenose Dolphins living in the Bay, groups of them can be regularly seen in the shallow waters in front of the Centre (Interaction Zone), as well as on eco cruises and swim encounters. In addition our café offers delicious food that can be eaten in our relaxed indoor area or on our decking overlooking the ocean. The souvenir shop boasts a range of quality souvenirs as well as an ever growing selection of local crafts and indigenous art.

Visit The Interaction Zone

Dolphin Interaction occurs in the ‘zone’ located in the shallow water in front of the Centre. Visitors are encouraged to enter up to waist deep water where the dolphins can swim amongst them. Our Centre promotes an interaction experience that is ecologically sound.

The visits which are initiated by these wild animals and can occur at any time of the day for between 5 minutes and 2 hours, but as the dolphins are wild, the Centre cannot guarantee visits on any particular day or at any particular time. Most frequent visitation occurs in the mornings between November and April. No minimum numbers required.

Visit The Interpretation Zone

Dolphin Interpretation features a fascinating series of interpretive panels about our Bottlenose Dolphins and Koombana Bay’s marine life and their environments. A fully reconstructed dolphin skeleton is a real drawcard as is the foetus of an
unborn dolphin. In addition a BIG Screen Theatre shows four short films including an eight minute feature on the local dolphins in their natural habitat including some tremendous behavioural characteristics commonly sighted in the Bay. No minimum numbers required.

Dolphin Swim Encounter is our most exhilarating experience. These exclusive tours are held from November to May. Guests are given the opportunity to swim with the wild dolphins in their own environment whilst being guided by our experienced Marine Biologist and trained volunteers. Following a fun yet informative safety briefing and general ‘in water’ guidelines, our team will have guests geared up and ready for an encounter.

Our marine experts will guide guests into the open waters where the dolphins can initiate interaction with the swimmers.

Price Per Person

Dolphin Eco Cruises are operated by Bunbury Dolphin Tours and depart daily for a 1 to 1.5 hour cruise within Koombana Bay. This experience will give you an amazing insight into the wonderful world of dolphins. The purpose built vessel provides a 360 degrees viewing platform designed to get you as close as possible to dolphins without getting your feet wet. Our informative commentary will provide you with an inspiring knowledge of the behaviours and antics you are witnessing as you see them at rest and play. Minimum 4 pax. Maximum 25 pax.
