Dr.
Peter
&
Elizabeth
Pratten
planted
Capel
Vale's
first
vines
on
the
Sterling
Estate
Vineyard
in
1974.
Reliable
climates
with
good
rainfall
and
cool
sea
breezes
provide
the
perfect
context
for
one
of
the
world's
most
quality
conscious
wineries.
Our
winemaking
philosophy
is
to
mirror
the
elegance
and
complexity
of
Old
World
Styles
using
the
highly
distinctive
flavours
of
the
grapes
from
our
New
World
Vineyards.
The
Capel
River
running
through
our
Stirling
Vineyard
is
a
wildfowl
sanctuary.
Around
the
region
there
are
many
species
of
water
fowl
including
pairs
of
the
native
Mountain
Duck
or
Shelduck.
These
impressive
birds
pair
and
nest
for
life.
Shelducks
are
a
protected
species,
and
are
regular
visitors
and
nesters,
with
several
pairs
using
the
river
bank
adjacent
to
Capel
Vale
for
raising
their
young
and
that
is
why
it
was
natural
inspiration
to
choose
the
Shelduck
as
our
emblem.
Also
for
your
enjoyment
is
our
Restaurant
where
simple,
elegant
food
reflects
the
rich
diversity
of
the
region.
Local
produce
and
ingredients
full
of
fresh
flavour
add
an
ideal
accompaniment
to
a
Capel
Vale
wine.
